Self-Managing Sam
Sam is a child who we use to teach children how to be self-managing. She can walk into school and get organised for the day on her own. She knows where to hang her bag and she can get set up for her day’s learning by herself before the school bell rings. She can also manage her won belongings especially when she needs to change for Physical Education.
Sam takes responsibility for her own learning by ensuring her homework is finished on time and meets deadlines the teacher sets. She is aware of the routines and meets expectations in her class and all areas of school.
Sam has a can-do attitude and is a risk taker with her learning. She is good at setting simple goals for herself and shows her independence.
Importantly she is aware of the impact her words and actions have on others.
We want all our students to be like Sam!

Helping Hannah
Hannah is a child who values all relate to being helpful. Hannah is a child who uses her initiative and helps keep the classroom tidy, looks after the new children when they arrive at our school making sure people are not left out.
In her learning Hannah shares her talents and expertise with others, helping others in and outside the classroom. She collaborates with others, responding and behaving appropriately in group situations.
When people need help, Hannah is there to lend a hand whatever the situation. Many of our children are already shining examples of Helpful Hannah and we want to hear about this happening outside of school as well.

Inquiring Irirangi
Irirangi reflects a great deal about the way in which we are moving with our learning in school. He is an inquirer who asks good questions as he is a curious boy who likes to solve problems and create new ways of thinking about things. He’ll take risks with his thinking and think outside of the box.
Irirangi contributions to class and group work are always welcome, as he makes others think about the information that they have and how they can apply it. Because he is an inquirer, Irirangi uses a number of different research tools.
Sharing his knowledge with others so that they can put that learning into action is important to Irirangi.
Networking Nick
Nick is a kid who makes connections to others, has good social skills in a variety of situations and is able to connect with other kids of different ages and cultures.
Nick is approachable and creates opportunities to include everyone in what he is doing.
Nick is an active listener who listens to others points of view, building on those points of view to the credit of everyone when he clearly communicates ideas to others. He works cooperatively in groups and with others to make sure everyone works towards their own personal goals as well as those of the group.
Nick shares his experiences at school, at home and with others in the community so he can gain feedback from people to extend his ideas and improve his own learning, and he loves talking about his learning at home.
Excelling Ellen
The last of out SHINE kids is Excelling Ellen. Ellen always tries to improve on her best so that she produces the highest level she can. She understands what standard of work is required and meets that expectation. She has a real can-do attitude and meets new challenges head on.
Ellen is often selected to represent the school in sports as she is physically fit and well coordinated. However, Ellen also knows when it is appropriate to compete and when it is appropriate to support others so that they can excel.
When Ellen achieves her personal goals and excels, her successes are celebrated with grace. For Ellen, success is not just excelling her academic studies and in the sports arena but socially as well.
